French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

Melding form with functionality, French-door refrigerators have stylish double doors that open to a spacious fridge up the top and a freezer drawer below. These refrigerators stand out due to their unique features, like door-to-door dispensers and more expensive Ice makers.

We asked Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect, and the founder of LS Projects - for her suggestions on how to pick the right one. We looked at storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency, among other factors.

The name implies that GE's Profile series is targeted at the consumer who wants to incorporate cutting-edge technologies in their kitchen. The refrigerator is brimming with these, from an inside-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a sophisticated water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator is a premium, I expect higher quality.

Other than that however, this refrigerator is a great option. It boasts a spacious freezer compartment, which is quite uncommon in counter-depth French door Fridge mitsubishi door refrigerators. Furthermore, it can hold a decent amount of frozen foods as compared to similar models.

You can adjust the shelves in each compartment to create a custom storage setup for whatever you have to store. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is attractive. The LED lighting adds a nice feature. The in-door storage bins come with a third shelf that can be folded down to store tall items. The drawers have temperature controls so you can set them to Beverage, Meat or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, but I found their plastic textured coatings a bit rough on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator has all the features you would expect from a refrigerator within this price range. It has Wi-Fi as well as app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices can let you control your refrigerator from anywhere in the world, and has many options for customizing. It also sends you notifications when the door is left unlocked and when the fridge or freezer must be defrosted and when the filter requires a change.

It would be nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS came with Precise Fill which is an option that is available in other GE fridges that allow you to set the number of cups of water you'd like to dispense at a time. The fridge displays a countdown timer to reveal how much water remains but it's not as useful as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Designed to look like a seamless piece of your kitchen, Bosch's French-door refrigerator is one of a kind. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a vegetable compartment which keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer periods, and two compressors to preserve food. The Ice maker is among the most efficient we've ever tested and produces a pyramid-shaped ice that is low in water consumption. This fridge is perfect for a small household or a kitchenette that wants an attractive design and top of the highest quality food preservation.

This fridge was the top-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators test for several reasons. Its freezer temperatures remained constant at just above 0° Fahrenheit and never changed by more than a fraction, this what is a french fridge freezer essential to avoid freezer burn. LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is a great counter-depth refrigerator that packs a lot of storage into a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge features a standard French door design, with two rows of shelving with spill-capture and a set crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded down to give tall items more space. You'll also find a full width drawer for deli items and an internal water dispenser.

One of the best aspects of this refrigerator is that the ice maker is inside the freezer, which makes it easy to transfer frozen ice to the fridge to use as required. The freezer has thoughtful design elements, as well, such as sliding drawers that help to organize the place of your items. It comes with a large bin to store frozen food items, and a separate bin for ice.

Smart InstaView panel is a cool feature of the refrigerator. It lets you manage the refrigerator's temperature and lighting from your smartphone. It's a great method of monitoring and managing your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat, but it doesn't necessarily enhance the performance of the fridge. In fact it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this fridge than some of the others we tested. This could be due to the greater capacity.

The doors are a different issue with this refrigerator. They have handles that are sunken on the front, which allow smaller people to open them from the bottom, but they're difficult for taller people to pull closed without slamming them. It would have been more effective if these had front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a good choice for those who want to combine the advantages of a French-door refrigerator's aesthetics with an efficient layout. Its capacity is superior for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a great layout. It's also a little less than the top counter depth refrigerator with an ice maker, making it an attractive option.

If you're looking for a French door refrigerator that won't cost you a fortune and isn't expensive, this Frigidaire is a great choice. It's a simple fridge that may not be as attractive as some of its competitors however, it does have enough features to make a suitable choice. Its most important feature, the temperature adjustable drawer, helps to keep food like vegetables and meat fresher longer. It also has a large ice maker and a water dispenser.

Another feature that is worth mentioning is the "Chill Drawer" that sits above the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you direct a portion of the refrigerator's cooling power to the area so that you can keep food items which need extra attention. You can alter this feature by using a slider that's located right on the outside of the drawer. You can also alter the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I have found that the general settings are more effective than the specific ones.

In my tests, the temperature of the refrigerator were fairly constant across the different areas of the fridge. Temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge didn't vary much from 38 degrees, and even the middle of the fridge was within one degree of 36. That's a good performance however it doesn't make it into the top ten in our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. This fridge can be connected with a smart thermostat in order to gain more precise information on the internal temperature of your fridge.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of grey-bodied stainless that has a "smudge resistant" finish. It does an excellent job of repelling fingerprints and streaks, even compared to shiny stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tried.
