UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes the handles on your doors will wear out and will require replacement. When doing this it is important that the new handles conform to the dimensions of the previous handle.

The three measurements you need to examine are the top screw's position the lever and key hole dimensions. Use the size guide to aid you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever handle or lever is a modern-day door handle designed to work with new or replacement doors. This type of handle is available in a variety of styles and finishes. A number of manufacturers make this type of handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

The handle can be positioned and angled to fit all users. The handle has been endurance-tested to 200 000 cycles. This helps to ensure that the quality of finish and performance over time. The lever that is sprung can be shortened to fit more locks. This is especially useful for doors with narrower frames, where the cylinder is located further back. A shortened lever is also an ideal choice for doors where the latch can be activated by the thumb turn on the inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc window handle replacement is different from the lever handles commonly found on doors. These handle types are either operated by one spindle or two spindles inline or offset. They are typically used on UPVC double glazed doors. They come in many variations & styles.

The handles have been tested to a minimum of 200,000 cycles and are available in several finishes including White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish meets BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, thereby giving the handle a high level of durability and performance for its intended use.

All UPVC levers for handles come with a spindle, screws, and can be fitted on a uPVC door. The backplate fixing centres of 211mm allow for a larger size handle that can often be a benefit in replacing a defective or worn multi point door lock mechanism. These handle levers have springs, which can solve the issue of handles for doors that slide out of horizontal position when not being used.

It is essential to ensure that the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC doors when choosing the replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement may also be called 'handle centre or cylinder centre'. It is important to match the correct handles.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are found on uPVC and other types of doors. They operate with a key to unlock a cylinder that then reveals pins which can be aligned with those in the lock body and allowing them to turn an revolving cam, opening the door. Euro cylinders are available with up to six pins. Internal and external doors require different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder is crucial. It depends on the use that your doors and handles receive. For example, external doors require a higher security cylinder, while doors inside can be secured with a standard cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that increase security, like anti drill or anti bump properties.

A euro cylinder needs to be measured correctly to ensure it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder needs to be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, should there be one. It is recommended to do this with the lock in place, but when this isn't feasible, you can take it off and remove it to take measurements. It is important to not have a cylindrical lock that extends beyond the Window Handle Upvc or escutcheon. This could make it vulnerable to lock snapping attacks.

The majority of modern cylinders have been constructed with bump and anti-drill features included in their design. They are designed to decrease attack chances by forcing the cylinders to rotate in a new direction. This can help prevent attacks and protect your doors.

Certain cylinders are constructed to withstand snapping. This is an increasingly common kind of attack on cylinders where the break line in the lock is smashed by a tool that is specially designed to break the front of the cylinder and allow the door to be opened. This is much quicker and easier to achieve than opening the door with multipoint locks and leaves little evidence of a break-in, which can hinder the insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is located inside the base plate of your door handle. It provides a sprung solution to help return the multipoint lock handles to their resting position after usage. In the past, a lot of these types of handle did not have a spring integrated into them, and without it they can droop or drop when the locking mechanism has been disengaged. Adding this simple component is one of the best methods to correct this and it is also an effective way to keep your doors made of upvc from becoming stuck in either closed or open position, as they aren't always easy to manually close by hand.

The spring cassettes were made to be used with a sprung multipoint lock. They are not compatible with unsprung handles, and you will have to cut a hole in the backplate to allow them to fit. (Please see the image for a more detailed diagram). They are a replacement for broken or missing cassettes within the door handle backplate of numerous brands of uPVC doors. They are available as a single unit. They have a square-cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.
